I’m Marcus Mack — a composer, pianist, and music educator based in Los Angeles. I’ve spent years helping students of all ages connect with music in a way that’s expressive, grounded, and honest. My background includes everything from gospel church services to film scores, and that range shows up in the way I teach.

What makes my approach different is simple: I teach music as a language — not just a skill. Whether you’re learning jazz voicings, R&B chord progressions, gospel runs, or how to play your favorite pop songs by ear, the goal is the same: to help you understand music, feel it deeply, and express yourself clearly.

I work primarily with teens and adults who are tired of rigid instruction and want to build fluency — not just finish another page in a workbook. My job isn’t to lecture — it’s to listen, guide, challenge, and help you unlock the music that’s already in you.

MUSICAL BACKGROUND

I studied Film Scoring at Berklee College of Music, where I trained in composition, harmony, improvisation, and arranging. But my real education started long before that — in the Black church, at shed sessions, producing with friends, and being a quiet fly on the wall in studios, soaking up how to operate gear and shape sound.

Since then, I’ve worked as a composer for independent films and commercials, while continuing to teach piano, voice, and songwriting to students from all walks of life. My influences range from James Blake and Nils Frahm to Fred Hammond and Fred Again…, and I bring that same genre-fluid mindset into every lesson.

Whether I’m helping someone play their first chord or produce their first original song, the mission stays the same: to make music feel personal, powerful, and possible.
