To understand the patterns of music we first need to understand our own.

Everything else flows from there.

The piano
follows you.

Private piano instruction in Los Angeles.
The student at the center. Always.

The Approach

You're not learning
how to play piano.

You're already doing it by playing just one note. Playing this instrument puts you at the center. Your particularities, your tastes, your perspectives.

This is why my students select the songs they want to learn and I advise them the best way to do that for them. The song becomes the exercise. Baked into it is the theory.

The Philosophy

Theory is not a list
of dos and don'ts.

It's an organizational framework for understanding what musicians before us did. The lessons are designed to put the student at the center, not the piano.

The piano is simply an extension of your body.

In Their Words

"Something resonates when you teach that I cannot quite articulate but I see and feel it. He came home and played for his friends, unprompted. Then practiced again before school this morning."

Chris Connelly, Parent of a current student

"In a couple of lessons I'm starting to have more fun playing piano than I ever have. Simple practices that quickly add up to bigger breakthroughs."

Benjamin

"Marcus is an extraordinary piano instructor who has a remarkable ability to connect with their students on a personal level. Their teaching approach goes beyond traditional methods, as they understand the importance of incorporating the sounds and moments that resonate with each individual. This unique approach not only fosters a deep love and passion for the piano, but also creates a captivating and enjoyable learning experience."
